Royalty was welcomed to Roseburg last week as the 2015 Oregon Dairy Princess-Ambassador, Emma Miller, visited Umpqua Dairy Products, elementary schools, Sherm’s Thunderbird, Fred Meyer, Human Bean and other local spots to promote dairy products and the industry. The Oregon Dairy Women crowned Miller, after she competed against six other contestants in January.
The Oregon Dairy Princess spent a half hour talking to students at various area schools, daycare centers and clubs about where milk comes from beyond the grocery store, the different types of milk cows, how milk is processed and why dairy is an essential part of a well balanced diet. She educated them about the “milking parlor,” what pasteurized and homogenous means, and worked with the kids on specific examples of what they could eat or drink in order to get their suggested daily dairy amount.
Miller looks forward to her future of informing people about agriculture and hopes to invigorate interest in others. Oregon Dairy Women is a nonprofit and volunteer- based organization with the main objective to promote the dairy industry.
