rBST Hormone Free
As of April 1st, 2008 we are pleased to announce all our dairy products are free of the synthetic growth hormone rBST (recombinant Bovine Somatotropin), also know as rBGH (recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone). While our milk products have been rBst Hormone Free since October 2004, this new pledge applies to all dairy products made in our facility and includes Umpqua Dairy milk, sour cream, cottage cheese & ice cream. Our direct dairy farmers and bulk milk suppliers have all signed affidavits certifying that they do not utilize rBST in the farm operations.
Due to excess carton and label inventory, not all ice cream products on the market will reflect this conversion. As we work through this inventory, you will see rBST Free become more prevalent on our products labeling.
Tamper Evident Bander
In February of 2008 we installed tamper evident machinery on our ice cream production line. As you may have noticed, our 1.75 quarts of ice cream now have clear plastic bands on the lids. While tamper evident packaging is not required by law for ice cream packaging, Umpqua Dairy has elected to add this feature voluntarily to greater ensure the quality of our ice cream.
In addition to product safety, our tamper evident banding will help maintain our product quality and appearance in areas of distribution that are affected by elevation.
