Our Quality Policy is to provide safe, reliable dairy products to our customers every time a purchase is made. This promise will be validated through customer trust in our products. Our goal is continuous improvement in our manufacturing process and is the responsibility of those individuals designated in our company for food safety and compliance with food regulations. Consumer safety is continually improved through reinvestment of capital in our facilities and infrastructure, appropriate staffing levels to ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and the development and validation of Standard Operating Producers (SOP’s). Our HACCP Plan and Quality Assurance Program will be the guide for day to day compliance with our Food Safety Plan ensuring that product quality will be maintained to the highest level each time our products are produced. Certifications of Analysis and product standards will be kept on all ingredients used in our process. Analysis of all raw and finished products will be performed by qualified lab technicians to validate the effectiveness of our process. Our five day guarantee will set the standard for our consumers’ investment in our products.
Umpqua Dairy is SQF (SAFE QUALITY FOODS) Level III Certified Umpqua Dairy continued our commitment to quality in 2008 by undergoing extensive training, auditing and evaluation with the SQF Certification Program. This is our commitment to Safe, Quality Dairy Products. Umpqua Dairy was the first dairy in Oregon to undergo the rigorous process to become SQF Certified. We are currently the only dairy in Oregon to be SQF Certified. Umpqua Dairy received its Level III (the highest level of SQF Certification) in December 2008. What is the SQF (Safe Quality Food) Program? The SQF Program (Safe, Quality Food) is one of the world’s leading food safety and quality management systems, designed to meet the needs of retailers and suppliers worldwide.
The Program provides independent certification that a supplier’s food safety and quality management system complies with international and domestic food safety regulations. This enables suppliers to assure their customers that food has been produced, processed, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards, at ALL levels of the supply chain. Investing in food safety and quality assurance is vital for any supplier or buyer striving to remain competitive in today’s global marketplace, where consumers want assurances that the food they buy is safe, no matter where it was grown, raised or processed. Retail and foodservice buyers also want assurances from their suppliers and are now requiring them to demonstrate that they are delivering safe, quality food. Because of heightened consumer awareness, the high cost of recalls and the vulnerability of their brands, retailers have moved away from traditional food safety inspections. They now favor suppliers who have implemented food safety and quality management certification, which focuses on prevention and risk analysis, and provides a higher degree of assurance that a supplier will maintain their commitment to food safety and quality every day. SQF is designed as a food safety program, but it also covers product quality (to ensure consistency), a feature that is unique to a certification program of this type.
The SQF Program is administered by the SQF Institute (SQFI), a division of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), and is the result of more than 15 years of development. To date, more than 10,000 certificates have been issued to companies operating in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East and North and South America. SQF certification is supported by an increasing number of U.S. and international retailers and foodservice providers, many of whom are expressing a preference for SQF-certified suppliers. In addition, the SQF Program is part of a landmark agreement among seven global retailers on mutual acceptance of global food safety systems.
Farm Fresh Dairy Products We receive fresh milk daily from family farms located throughout Oregon and SW Washington, giving you the better, fresher products. These family farms take pride in keeping their animals healthy and providing us with delicious tasting milk. Milk that is produced from cows not treated with rBST*/rBGH*, a synthetic growth hormone. Our goals are the same: to provide you with a nutritious food whose taste, purity and quality are unsurpassed.
Our commitment to food safety includes the declaration of food allergens on our product labels. The FDA (US Food & Drug Administration) has declared the following as the Big 8 allergens: eggs, milk, wheat, honey, peanuts, fish, soy and tree nuts. These are considered the most common among allergens and are known to cause serious allergic reactions in individuals. We take the utmost care in the handling of allergens in our facility from procurement of ingredients, usage during manufacturing and separation during storage. If the allergens are present in our products, the label clearly states the allergens present. In addition we comply with all State and Federal labeling regulations that mandate the declaration of all ingredients, including allergens on our dairy products. Included on all of our labels is our trans fat declaration. All Umpqua Dairy milk, cream, culture, butter, ice cream and orange juice are trans fat free, containing 0 grams per serving of trans fat. We have label specialists on staff that can address any issue or concerns that you might have about our products. Security is a major priority here at Umpqua Dairy. Since the attacks on 9/11, food security and the threat of bioterrorism has become a top concern in the food industry. The security of our employees, facilities and products is critical to the success of our business. We require and update our security measures not only at our production facility, but also at our distribution centers. Security includes new and random employee screens/checks, visitor & delivery controls, and periodic facility pass code maintenance.
Maintaining High Standards for Quality Our Grade “A” facility is inspected on a regular basis to make sure that we comply by all the State and Federal regulations, as well as by the national Quality Chekd Organization for compliance with their high standards. These audits are conducted by certified regulatory agencies on a quarterly, semi annual and annual basis. These audits are conducted to provide an assessment of our facilities for compliance with our high quality, superior food safety and security policies. The audit process helps us maintain our high standards for quality.
